Primary Teacher (K-6)

As an educator, I have had the pleasure and extensive experience of working in multiple roles and managerial positions for the past 10+ years. Such positions have included working as a Childcare Service Director, a Tertiary Supervisor at Australian Catholic University for Early Childhood graduates whilst also, working as a Primary teacher (K-6).

Having had this exposure to different roles within both fields of education, I would find myself critically reflecting upon the evdient educational gap between early childhood and primary. Observing many children struggle with the transition from preschool to primary, I became eager to remedy the issue.

Generally, long day care and preschool programs are driven by childrens interests known as the Reggio Emilia approach to learning, which offers a play-based learning curriculum that is driven by childrens interests.

In contrast, when children transition to a school based curriculum, parents and children often notice a vast difference between the two, as kindergarten curriculum and learning outcomes are not driven by childrens interests, but on curriculum learning outcomes. Consequently, this takes some time for children to adjust, while simultaneously coming to terms with the structure of the classroom and whole school's daily/weekly routines, explicit teaching and learning experiences, teacher expectations and differing teaching + leaning strategies.

For some children, these drastic changes take a toll on their overall wellbeing, and for those who aren't considered academic or as ready as others, these changes will also affect their first year at school and potential learning dispostions. It is well known that unhappy children who experience stress in their lives, will not learn to their full potential. Much like adults.

Our objective is to eliminate the initial stress of learning and/or retaining foundational Literacy and Numeracy concepts by exploring these within the comfort of their childcare service.

Ready Child is dedicated towards making an educational difference in society and supporting our children, holitically. Our mission is to bridge the gap between early childhood and primary education, supporting children's academic transition and confidence upon entering their Kindergarten classroom. Our specialised School Readiness program supports all children druing their preshool years, in achieving academic success and increasing their confidence before commencing school.

Ready Child became an academic service whose mission was se out to create a positive learning atmosphere, reflecting learning experiences and concepts of a primary classroom. One that encourages curiosity, learning, collaboration and sheer determination. A place where children feel important, respected, cared for and believed in, while exploring kindergarten learning outcomes. In our program, we explicitly teach fundamental skills, followed by supporting a variety of skills and learning outcomes through the use of our literacy and numeracy groups. The children engage with such concepts in an early childhood play based manner, which has never been done in early childhood. Ready Child has quickly become a School Readiness program that has pioneered school readiness programs in erly childhood.

Using a blended approach of play based and intentional teaching and learning strategies, Ready Child integrates early childhood and primary teaching strategies to create a pedagogy to support our preschoolers in their transtion to kindergarten.  We also provide strong support for service staff and childrens' families in becoming ready, confident and prepared for their academic transition and future success. Assessments are conducted at the end of each term help all educators in understanding individual children's needs which require further support, and allow parents and caregivers to work collaboratively in achieving these goals.

There is nothing like being confident and READY when entering the each stage of your child's educational journey.
