Play-based learning is described in the EYLF as 'a context for learning through which children organise and make sense of their social worlds, as they actively engage with people, objects and representations. Through play-based learning, skilled educators can introduce and reinforce concepts we want children to learn in a way that engages each child’s interests. Prior to inplementing this experience, we had known that some of the children in our School Readiness group had gone on an excursion to Featherdale Wildlife Park! To keep our learning experiences related to the children's interests and the service program, we decided to explore our School Readiness concepts relating to farm animals! The children had such a fun time sharing stories while learning, problem solving and, complete our animal puzzles utilising their phonological skills, followed by making the sound of each animal to reinforce language and pronunciation in a fun and silly way! 'The C-ow goes M-oooo, C-OW' 'The D-u-ck goes Qu-ack, D-u-ck!' We encourage all our services to inform us of relevant experiences occurring at your centre so we can incorporate these into our School Readiness program, and back into YOURS!
