One driving goal for primary level mathematics education, is to help children develop a rich understanding of numbers – their meanings, their relationships to one another, and how we operate with them.

In term 1 of our Ready Child School Readiness Program, we explore the Number and Algebra Kindegarten learning outcome which focuses on the children's ability to count to 30, and further order, read and represent numbers in the range 0 to 20.

In our School Readiness groups, we support our preschoolers developing knowledge of numbers and their placement/value by creating a variety of number lines.

This is experience is a quick, mental math warm up, used to transition our busy brains from Literacy to Numeracy mode. Our Number Line experience also supports our School Readiness children in achieving the abovementioned outcome via connecting number names, numerals and quantities, including zero, initially up to 10 and then beyond. We begin this experience by seating the children before an incomplete number line.

We then gift the seated children with flashcards representing different values. From here, we then work together to complete our number lines and work together to achieve this common goal! Go team!! 🙌👌🔢
