Subtraction

Addition and subtraction are two of the ways we work with numbers. We call them arithmetical operations. Did you know subtraction and addition are inverse operations. Furthermore, the word operation comes from the Latin ‘operari’, meaning to work or toil.

The development of solid understanding of addition and subtraction is essential for the development of later concepts including other arithmetical operations, calculations arising from measurements and algebra. Our School Readiness groups love learning how to subtract through fun, play based learning experience of bowling! This doesnt seem like much 'operari' or 'work', but they do say; in early childhood, play is definitely a form of learning!
